Reflection

Written by Aki Tobin

This interview really humanized people on the street in my eyes. The parts where he spoke about how he was as a little kid and the memories of his birthday showed that the homeless are people too. He also shed light on the importance of family and how they will be there no matter what. At (2:50), Kevin explains how he was born with mental and physical disabilities; however, his dad never gave up on him. It shows the resilience of family and how they will always be there through rough patches to support. My interview with Kevin also had a large emphasis on how even though the appearance of someone can change, the inside of a person stays the same. It shows that people experiencing homelessness are still the same person on the inside even though they have suffered and changed physically. Finally, I found it very inspiring that even in his situation, Kevin was thinking about others before himself. Multiple times we offered him food and money before the interview and he refused them because he didn’t want to take it from anyone else. He also told us at (1:13) that helping other people on the street is what makes him happy.
